Back Description Himalayan Pink Salt is not actually from the Himalayas! It is estimated that Himalayan pink salt formed around 250 million years ago around the Jurassic period. The salt is mostly mined at the Khewra Salt Mine in Khewra, Jhelum District, Punjab, Pakistan, which is situated in the foothills of the Salt Range hill system between the Indus River and the Punjab Plain. The salt was formed from dried sea beds which were submerged by lava eruptions millions of years ago. Pink Himalayan salt is made up of approximately 96% and 99% sodium chloride, with trace presence of calcium, iron, zinc, chromium, magnesium. The trace minerals are where it gets its famous pink hue.
